Sliding Into Home
When I see someone that stirs an interest in me, I picture them naked.
I don't mean naked as in smooth skin, tanned body, seductive smile. I mean naked as in a sweaty back and thighs, flushed skin, involuntary spasms with eyes shut tight and mouth wide open. Anything less is a waste of my imagination.
As a reader/editor/writer of erotica, I feel the same way. There doesn't have to be a sex scene in every single chapter. The kind of reader that is keeping a tally of sex scenes and positions in order to like a story is probably still in middle school and not allowed to read what we publish. Quality over quantity, people, and don't hold back when you do meld those hips together. It's not like sex is new and only recently discovered. The body parts are all the same, the ins and outs, the race for home base. So when you get to that point where someone reaches out and pulls a body (willing or unwilling) close, then do what you have to do and make the reader believe you really did re-invent sex. Don't hold back and remember that sex is messy, sounds weird at times, has its own unique aroma, and makes us lose control.
Don't hold back.
I don't care if you have to drink a couple of shots to relax or you have to channel your slutty friend or ... other means. If I yawn even one time while reading a sex scene, I'm done. I'm saying words out loud that are unprofessional and require my windows to be closed. Especially if the plot is incredible.
When I read an awesome story with lewd and lascivious written all over it, there better be follow-through. Else that makes you a tease, which is fine as a personal choice, but won't make you very popular with readers paying hard-earned money for a story that should make them squirm.
People are talking about ForbiddenFiction. We're causing a ripple that's only going to grow wider and that means if I'm editing one of your stories, you better believe I'm going to push you hard. I want you to give me everything you've got and then I want you to give me everything you never thought you could come up with. Don't be afraid of giving too much, The more risks you take, the more respect you earn from me and if you go too far, I'm here to reel you back in.
Just don't hold back.

#1 This!
I can't begin to tell you how many boring sex scenes I've read. Really folks, I like sex and I like reading about it or I wouldn't do this job. Yet, so many authors (out there, not here) make it feel like reading stereo instructions. "Insert tab A into slot B."
I often end up reading slushpile at bedtime, I actually consider it the challenge for the writer to see if they can keep me awake long enough to get through it.

I didn't think you slept.

#4 Thank you, Ann. The talent in
Thank you, Ann. The talent in our writers is impressive and I just want everyone to reach their full potential, even if the journey is a little painful. My motives aren't selfless. It's a pretty cool feeling to see the results of team effort. :)
